Pondering
Life offers up so many opportunities
In a world of “think positive”, I always hear in my mind The Music Man’s Professor Harold Hill saying, “I always think there’s a band, kid” as he weaves his dream of a real band in the minds of his followers.
In my mind, I always think there’s a band, too; it’s just that my band has been The Squeaky Page. But the current “band” is struggling with tooting its horn, beating its drum; we can’t perform if people don’t come up the stairs and buy stuff. Also, in the past month or so I have seen a lot of hospital walls, waiting, watching my mom sleep, and inevitably listening to the drone of television so it fills the void. Not once, or twice, but three times, “You’ve Got Mail” has been on and, voila … another poignant movie line … “People are always saying that change is a good thing. But all they’re really saying is that something you didn’t want to happen at all… has happened. My store is closing this week. … I’m heartbroken. I feel as if a part of me has died ….”
Well, we’re not closing this week, but reality is The Squeaky Page will be facing change soon. I (you know, with my Music Man mantra in my head) plan to continue The Squeaky Page, maybe in a different venue, a different focus, maybe one that draws more people in and hooks them on this awesome hobby. But, for now, this incarnation is coming to an end. I will let you know actual plans in the next week or so. With my treks to the hospital (and now the nursing home) for my mom, I don’t have very good control of my schedule and am trying to do a “business change strategy”. We will maintain our regular hours as much as possible and the ongoing clubs and workshops will still be happening.
What does this mean
for the right now …
For the day-to-day (right now), we will be selling everything at 25% off (including the few things left in the gift shop), and we will not be doing any re-ordering. We also have some of the near and dear antiques/furniture for sale so come check it out.
p.s. if you know someone who has dreamed of starting their own scrapbook/paper crafting business, I will have a good supply of the “fixture stuff” for sale. Let’s talk. I am first listing it as a complete inventory (fixtures, cash register, stuff to start a store), if that isn’t attractive enough we will see if we should piecemeal it for sale.
There will always be a band
thanks to all of you, I know this is true …
Thank you for the almost 8 years of support … now let’s work together to see what the next few years will bring. Remember, if we don’t support the small, local businesses … there won’t be any. And then our ability to make choices will diminish, so please continue to support the local businesses!
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” Helen Keller. So guessing this means we should always keep our eyes (and mind) open. Have a great day!
